Also known as an Expanding Towing Head or Duct Puller, the Standard Towing Head is a simple device that attaches to the end of a piece of plastic pipe to allow it to be pulled.
It is designed for use with polyethylene pipes of wall thickness between *SDR11 & SDR17.6.
Other materials and wall thicknesses can also be accommodated.
Standard Towing Heads are operated by simply inserting into the pipe and turning the eyebolt.
The turning action draws a cone into four toothed segments which are forced into the wall of the pipe.

Our Frome-based factory designs and manufactures quality sealed towing heads for use in the trenchless technology industry.
The Mudtight GOLD Towing Head was designed and developed in 2000.
The aim was to solve the age-old problem of sealing the pipe without adding too much bulk to the outside diameter of the pipe.
Tensile testing confirms that the towing head grips beyond the yield strength of the pipe.
Its patented sealing cartridge seals on the inside of the pipe and is reversible so that it will seal on both SDR 11 and SDR 17.6 pipe.

Operating from our Frome workshops, Brewis Engineering has developed Large Diameter Towing Heads to fit even the biggest pipes.
Fuse-on, Bolt-on and Weld-on Towing Heads can be designed and manufactured for your project.
Please call to discuss your requirements.
The difference in bore size between SDR11 and 17 gets too big to make one set of grippers for both sizes.
Large Towing Heads normally fit only one size and are SDR specific.
Different grippers can normally be fitted to the same body.
The type of job becomes more important - The towing head specified will be quite different for a 20m shot under a railway when compared to an 800m shot of ballasted sewer pipe across an estuary.
