Established in 1997 by Cormac Regan, LRH Engineering is a small consultancy practice providing advice on general building services engineering, low carbon and energy efficiency to both private and public clients. We believe that our success is due to our ability to listen to client requirements and to deliver a solution within budget.
Our core business and skills do lie within building services advice and design, but we have always felt that this included an inherent desire to achieve energy efficient and low carbon solutions.Recent changes to Building Regulations have required building services designers to pay more and more attention to reducing energy consumption and thereby carbon emissions, but we have always felt that the majority of the should be considered good practice.
We provide services to a growing range of clients throughout the both Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland and believe that is due to our ability to structure our fees so that both private and public clients can avail of our expertise.

Services
These are the systems that allow any building to function correctly and range from heating to air-conditioning, lighting to electrical power distribution, intruder detection to access control and fire detection to fire suppression.
Basically, building services systems cover all the energy consuming systems within a building and those systems that provide building/life protection and telecommunication and data communications.
Not only do we design our systems to be in compliance with current Building Regulations, as members of CIBSE Low Carbon Consultants we aim to provide systems that exceed the requirements of current regulation in relation to energy consumption and carbon emissions.

While new build properties do allow us to the opportunity to provide energy efficient systems, there will always be a large proportion of existing buildings that will require our services.
This can start with carrying out with general Condition Surveys which will give advice on the condition of existing installation and whether they are meeting, in an energy efficient manner, the requirements of the client.
We can also provide advice on how best to upgrade or replace existing systems, taking into account how works can be undertaken to minimize disruption to the existing business activities.

With the current interest in climate change and rise in energy costs we have noticed increased interest in this section of our business, we have however always as engineers it is our responsibility to ensure that the systems we design are as energy efficient as possible.
As members of the CIBSE Low Carbon Consultants Scheme we our schemes are designed to exceed the requirements of current Building Regulations in relation to carbon emissions.
We also use Energy Plus to allow us to create thermal models of buildings to assess their energy use.

Introduced as part of the Energy Performance of Building Directive, EPC's are a legal requirement for buildings at the point of construction, sale or rent.
EPC's are similar to the energy rating certificates that you are probably familiar with for white goods and cars, and gives you an indication of the energy performance of a building compared to a government established notional building.
We are able to produce EPC's for Non-Domestic Buildings and our registration is covered by our membership of the CIBSE Low Carbon Consultants for UK properties and by SEI for properties in Ireland.
