M.Gear engineering was incorporated in 1974 By Michael and Gillian Gear after they had taken over the sheet metal business of Gillian's father Freddy Pymm. Then located in Barnet ( north London ) they specialised in providing subcontract services to a diverse range of Manufacturing industries, everything from precision machining of copper busbars and heatsinks for the semi conductor industry to metal chassis for control units of early drum kits and Pc's.
Over time the business expanded to take advantage of CNC machinery and to bring in finishing processes in house. The 1990's and early 2000's saw an expansion into stainless steel fabrications for an eclectic range of customers, everything from ashtrays and high end shop fittings to bespoke Fireplaces.
The industrial base in North London declined and despite bringing many additional services in house and specialising more in finished components for end of chain customers it became more and more difficult to operate in the metropolis.Sadly in 2015 Gillian Gear the matriarch of the family passed away and after a time it was decided that it was time to move.
