Thurston Engineering
Thurston Engineering Ltd evolved from a business started by Eric Thurston in 1938, at Ongar Essex, and was originally set up to overhaul motor car engines. Nearly 75 years on, the business has developed and expanded to include a wide range of allied services which we are proud to offer in today's market place.

Our staff are a potent blend of craftsmen who are highly experienced in all aspects of engine reconditioning/repair and the dynamism that accompanies innovative young men raring to keep abreast of all the latest technology. It is a mixture of this deep-seated knowledge and the determination to be at the forefront of new technology as and when it proves itself to be advantageous, that has been largely responsible for the enviable reputation that Thurston Engineering has accrued over the years.

This approach enables the Company to offer an invaluable service to both industrial and private customers. Further specialised workshops have been added over the years to accommodate larger cylinder boring machines, crankshaft grinders and many other modern machines, thus allowing the Company to expand into the heavy commercial, industrial and marine markets.
Services
Thurston Engineering Ltd evolved from a business started by Eric Thurston in 1938 in a garage in The Lion Yard, Ongar, Essex.
Eric purchased a Boring Bar and other small pieces of equipment to mainly specialise in Engine Repairs.
Being almost the first person in Essex to do this, he soon built up sufficient business to keep him more than occupied seven days a week, but soon after getting married in 1939, the war broke out with the result that he was called up into the Royal Army Ordnance Corps in early 1940.
Metal spraying worn areas and grinding back to standard size provides a salvage scheme that can keep the most precious machines alive.
Sometimes repairing a component is not an option and a replacement part is not always available.
Manufacturing a one off component for a lot of today's engineering shops is not cost effective and therefore they would not entertain that type of work, however with our combination of traditional and modern day engineering capabilities a one off component or large quantities is within our capability.
