During these unprecedented times we recognise the need to follow the guidelines to slow the rate of spread of the virus. We also recognise that there is a need for essential services to continue. To that end, Callidus Design have implemented a complete suite of remote-working measures to allow services to be provided as normal. Video-conferencing has replaced all face-to-face meetings with some site surveys being conducted by client's on-site staff by means of photographs and video.

Where site surveys for clients in key essential services are unavoidable, these can still be carried out with the application of strict PPE and distancing measures. With these procedures in place, Callidus Design are fully operational and ready to provide our services where required. Callidus Design is a privately owned firm of Consulting Engineers based in Livingston, Scotland.

We provide Building Services, Mechanical, Electrical, Process, Environmental and Controls Engineering solutions for building projects throughout the United Kingdom.

Our past project experience extends across a diverse range of sectors, including Residential, Leisure, Commercial, Industrial, and Healthcare.
The core staff at Callidus Design have acquired particular knowledge in the servicing of often complex industrial building applications, for example, microelectronic cleanrooms, pharmaceutical facilities and processes requiring close control of environmental temperature and humidity.
Being maritime in nature, the UK climate hasn't traditionally been known to require cooling systems to be installed in buildings which are purely for the purposes of comfort.
In specific applications where heat gain is unavoidable then discrete air-conditioning systems are commonly used.
However, when control over temperature is required for process or other reasons then cooling systems, in conjuction with heating systems, are the means to achieve that.
Like its heating counterpart, a cooling system consists of a source of cooling, normally referred to as a chiller and a means to distribute the generated cooling to defined loads such as Chilled Beams or coils in Air Handling Units (AHUs).
Heat energy is expensive both financially and for the biosphere regardless of its source.
It therefore makes great sense to hold onto it for as long as possible once it has been purchased and take all practical steps to prevent or slow down its escape.
For heat loss through the walls of buildings or process plant, the easiest way to prevent heat loss is with the use of insulation.
However, this is not a panacea and there are circumstances where insulation would not be applicable.
One such example would be the necessity to sufficiently ventilate our buildings to provide the necessary oxygen for the occupants and for odour control.
