Services
HAPS - the EMERGING TECHNOLOGY THAT WILL PROVIDE PERSISTENT, COST-EFFECTIVE CAPABILITY LIKELY TO DISRUPT EXISTING SPACE AND COMMUNICATIONS MARKETS.
Elson Space Engineering co-developed the original Zephyr II HAPS in association with QinetiQ in 2002.
Elson Space Engineering provides R&D expertise in both Lighter than Air (airship & balloon) and Heavier than Air (fixed wing) HAPS systems.
This unique resource offers safe and efficient testing of equipment and manned altitude trials.
Elson Space comprises a team of engineers and technicians backed by a well-equipped fabrication/machine shop to facilitate a wide range of research and development projects.
A unique range of research and test facilities are available.
These include 3 x Hypobaric Chambers, one of which - the UK's largest civilian altitude testing chamber - can operate to a maximum altitude of 140,000 feet / 45,000m (near Space).
Elson Space Espaa, based in Aragon, Spain was established in 2014 and facilitated the assembly and test flights of the Astigan HAPS.
It is in the process of establishing an Iberian Space and Strato Port in order to facilitate the assembly, high altitude environmental testing and flying of HAPS.
Elson Space Espaa has significant on the ground knowledge of HAPS R&D, logistics, training, development and testing.
Personnel also have a detailed knowledge and understanding of meteorology, especially with reference to the interaction between high-altitude weather, jet-streams and surface conditions.
Design and build of capsules & life support systems for teams attempting a non-stop global balloon flight.
Clients included Cable & Wireless, Breitling, the late US millionaire Steve Fossett and Russian pilot Fedor Konyukhov.
The Cable and Wireless Balloon, piloted by Andy Elson and Colin Prescot broke the World Endurance Record for any Non-Stop Sub-Orbital Flying Machine, flying over 12,000 miles from Spain to the Pacific in 18 days.
Design and build of world's largest helium balloon plus life-support platform to set a new world altitude record for a manned balloon ascent - to 25 miles, (132,000 feet).
