Already many companies and business have ditched their PBX systems and already use this technology, it also allows 'multi line' appearance but without the need for multiple old fashioned copper wiring to deliver individual 'pairs' to provide each line.
I personally already have installed lots of cloud phones and cordless DECT phones in harmony with ATA's, so really no need to panic.
VirginMedia are already using their routers with an ANALOGUE port whereas previously their external network was Coax and telephone feed using 'shotgun' cabling, now all new installs are single coax cable with the upgraded router with analogue port.
