JPen John Patrick Engineering
JPen are engineering and metal fabricators situated between Nottingham and Derby in the East Midlands, the heart of the UK. The company creates and supplies high precision, quality, bespoke metal fabrications to industries throughout the entire country as well as Europe. Tailor made products are fabricated to individual customer requirements from mild and stainless steel, in addition to cromweld, aluminium and copper.

The strong reputation of JPen is built upon its unfailing track record for successful project completion on time and within budget. With the use of regular surveys, customer evaluations have rated from satisfied to very satisfied regarding products and services offered by JPen. The current climate for the metal fabrication industry shows a shortfall in the number of skilled welders, plate fixers, fettlers and machinists.

JPen are very fortunate to have a full and growing compliment of qualified and experienced staff covering all skillset requirements for any and all fabrication project.
Services
JPen was started by John Patrick and has been in business since 1983, during its respectable history the company has seen steady, sustained growth and development, acquiring diverse and integral skill sets amongst its many employees.
With each passing year, new customers come to use our services with many continuing to use us again and again.
For the first 5 years, JPen was based at a modest sized production facility situated in Langley Mill in Alfreton, Derbyshire.
During the initial founding period, the company quickly grew and matured to a point that required the relocation of operations to a facility with more area space.
JPen are experts in the supply of chimneys and ducting serving a variety of purposes: heat recovery and exchange (including Combined Heat and Power [CHP] systems), gas recycling, ventilation and system exhausts.
JPen ducting and chimneys are typically manufactured in mild steel, stainless steel or cromweld.
Materials used for manufacture range from 1.5mm to 15mm thickness, dependent on the nature of the gases being transported.
As well as painted and galvanised finishes, JPen can arrange insulation and cladding of ducting and chimneys prior to or after installation.
Hellmich GmbH is a German company specialising in environmental engineering.
Hellmich's patented technology has set the standard in gas cleaning and the Fluorine Cascade Absorber (FKA) is the world market leading system for the reduction of fluorine (as hydrogen fluoride) in kiln exhaust gases.
JPen, through JP Environmental, has been supplying FKAs and dust extraction equipment to the UK clay industry for over 18 years.
The benefits of the system are detailed further down in this article, the demand for installations of this revolutionary scrubbing facility have continued to grow as more and more customers seek to replace less efficient exhaust gas cleaning mechanisms.
When off the shelf fabricated platforms, ladders and gantry systems are not sufficient to provide required levels of access for healthy and safety and or ease of work tasks, JPen are well versed in designing either mobile or static custom fabrications.
Bespoke access platforms can be made as modular or vari-form pieces.
Ladders and platforms are manufactured in accordance with current British Standards and are specifically designed to comply with Health & Safety requirements.
They are typically manufactured in stainless or mild steel and can be finished through painting, galvanising or both.
Considering the end application and location of a staircase will determine what choice of steel the customer makes.
Contemporary commercial staircases favour the use of highly polished stainless steel designs for their strong aesthetic appeal.
Stainless steel has a high chromium content which gives that ever so obvious sheen, it is also a harder alloy than mild steel which makes it less ductile and somewhat harder to weld.
A visit to any popular consumer retail centre will almost certainly provide example of this type of staircase and or stair platforms.
