The Royal Engineers Association (REA) is the Regimental Association of the Royal Engineers. As with all our members, we at HQ REA share a common goal, 'service not self'. We are committed to providing our membership with a top quality service, be it with benevolence matters, membership or Branch issues, keeping you up to date with REA issues or just having a chat.

The original REA was founded in 1912 under the name of The Royal Engineers Old Comrades Association.
Its name was changed to the Royal Engineers Association in 1952.
To provide financial and other assistance to serving and former members of the Corps, their spouses, widows, widowers and dependants who are in need through poverty.
To make grants, within Association Guidelines, to ABF - The Soldiers Charity and to other charities that further the objectives of the Association.

All caseworker are advised that HQ REA have strict eligibility rules and criteria for verifying service in the Corps of Royal Engineers for those applying for financial assistance through the REA benevolence system.
Widow of Spr - The REA authorised a grant of 1,000 towards bathroom adaptation costs for the widow of a former Sapper.
Reservist - The REA authorised a grant of 2,500 towards a powered wheelchair for a former RE Reservist.
ATC/WRAC, ABF and Independence at Home also authorised grants.

Claims returned to HQ REA without supporting receipts, the claimants signature or the signature of the authorising branch official will not be processed, but returned to the claimant.
Unfortunately HQ REA does not hold service records for former servicemen; we only hold the contact details of our members.

Anyone who served in the Corps of Royal Engineers, Regular or Reserve, is eligible to join the REA.
Those that contributed to the Days Pay Scheme (DPS) can take up Life Membership free of charge.
Applications for Associate Membership can only be initiated at Branch level by a Branch Official and must be approved by the regional Group Director.
